Calling all fans of indie films and calling all fans of horror films, there is now a film that combines both your love. Apocalypse Now director Francis Ford Coppla has released a trailer for his brand new film Twixt. First released over the recent Comic Con and now heading its way down to Toronto film fest, the quirky blood fest is set to bring a fresh view on an otherwise set in stone genre (that is horror.)
If you haven't already guessed from the trailer, Val Kilmer stars as a down and out author Hal Baltimore who is taking his book tour around the sleepy towns of America. When he arrives at one town though, he finds more than he bargained for as the towns secrets pour out into the open.
While it looks as though there will be quite a few twists and scares, this definitely holds a lot of indie genre moments, a quirky style of shooting and slightly awkward acting. And don't worry, if you want to catch Ford Coppla, he is planning on touring this film around with remixed scenes.
Maybe there is one where Kilmer is back to his Batman days and sans ponytail. *sigh*
This weekend saw a head to head race to top spot and yesterday saw "Cowboys & Aliens" tie with "Smurfs." Well the results have been recounted and we have a winner. Drum roll, please. Whilst soul destroying kids movie Smurfs (see here) gained $35.6 million, the genre mix up "Cowboys & Aliens" beat them by just a fraction earning $36.4 million.
Despite being beaten, Sony has still managed to over earn their estimated $20 million with "Smurfs" whilst "Cowboys & Aliens" missed their projections of $40 - $45 million for Universal.
UK will wait to see how they battle against each other. (I'm kind of hoping we British Folk will see the ridiculouslness of a computer generated Smurf but I have been proven wrong before.) Also, here's a fun trick, watch this trailer for Jon Favreaus, "Cowboys & Aliens" and spot the similarities between Favreau's hit Iron Man.
The Dark Knight rises is pretty much my film of 2012 (despite there being massive blockbuster such as The Hobbit and The Amazing Spider-Man.) Just like Batman himself the film is shrouded with mystery, darkness and is kicking ass all over the scene. So that's why it is exciting to learn that fans in Pennsylvania have managed to catch a sneak peak of a massive fight between cops, Batman and Bane, giving us the first sneak peak of the villain.
We also get a quick look (keep your eye out) at Joseph Gordon-Levitt as his role as a cop and the new camouflaged tumbler Bat-mobile.
What more could we want from a Marvel world? Hmm? What with Captain America fully blowing us away on the silver screen and The Avengers movie coming out next year (planned 14th May, the day after my birthday....squeal.) So what more could Marvel offer us? Well, there have been much talk about a Dr Strange movie to be released 2013.
If you don't know who Dr Strange is, he is a pretty important character in the world of all things Marvel. Just a little back-story for all you non geeks. Dr Strange was a famed but complete douchebag of a surgeon who only cared about money until a car accident had left him unable to perform. But whilst hunting for a cure, he discovers his good side and mysticism, become a brilliant Sorcerer.
Writers Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donenelly, who are famous for writing action romps such as Conan and Sahara, have already (with what I imagine giddy glee,) submitted their script to Marvel and we wait with bated breath to see what they all have in store. Originally, there had been plans of Marvel short films and even Pixar was mentioned at one point.
With everyone knowing that this character is by far one of the best (as said by Marvel's Kevin Feige.)
As much as I am totally excited about this revelation and will keep you at post as to who will play who, I can't shake Aqua's Dr Jones out of my head....
UK Box office news now guys, and with no surprise Harry Potter is still clinging on to number one, despite releases from Captain America and other homegrown children's movie Horrid Henry. But that's not all, Harry Potter has surpassed the $1 billion mark and has already beaten Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon despite Transformers being released 2 weeks before. It is already become the eight highest grossing movie beating The Dark Knight but not Alice In Wonderland. It is, however, number one in Warner Brothers terms.
In US Box Office, Captain America has (boo hoo) been kicked to third place being sadly beaten by an epic battle. A battle taken place years ago. A battle between the wild west and visitors from another planet. A battle between Cowboy's and......................Smurfs? Yes, in a surprising twist, there is an estimated $36.2million a piece to Cowboys & Aliens and Smurfs so they are joint first place.
Hmmm what a strange combinations? What surprise hits are coming out this week? We'll see thursday.
Since Channel 4 had axed Big Brother, Channel 5 (or as I like to call it, "That Channel with CSI and all the programs the others didn't want) has picked it up for a new series and is set to relaunch later this month with Celebrity Big Brother . It is safe to say that not many were excited and I certainly didn't have any plans to watch yet another inane series.
Until,
Well I until I heard who has signed on for £6 million to feature on the series.
I'll give you a clue. He previously earned £1.2million for each episode of a (in)famous sitcom before he was fired for his cocaine and porn star binges. He is a warlock, a bitchin rock-star from mars and drinks tiger blood. Yes yes yes, the guy that TV bosses pulled out all the stops for to make unmissable telly with.
What is this I hear in the rumor mill? The sound of someone flogging a franchise to death? Why yes, yes it is. Unfortunately (or fortunately, it really depends on how you look at it,) there are plans in the works for a Die Hard 5 despite Bruce Willis haven't yet to sign on to another venture out for John McClane.
Though recently it had been said that Noam Murro was recruited to bring a fresh new vision on the action epacked series, Murro has decided to up ships to the 300 spin off; Battle Of Artemisia. So who instead could feed to the mindless new installement? Well, producers have offered it to John Moore, creator of other such unnecessary films such as The Omen. Moore has been told that the gig is for his to take or turn down
Twitch Film has informed us that the grumpy McClane will be travelling to Russia to help local forces with the aide of his son and I'm pretty sure there will be many explosion, punches in the face and witty one liners.
