Film News Round Up: 29 - 5 August

It has been a whole week since the last installment of Film News (but maybe we could make that a thing, like a weekly thing...or not, you know.) and I apologize but please be happy with a lot of film news that I have deemed too good to miss or completely horrible to not write sarcastic comments about them.

Good News

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is the film that gets the British cockles going. Not only is it based on a British spy novel by a British author but boasts an extremely British cast with British names such as Benedict Cumberbatch. You can't get much British than that. So done your pride as brand new clips of the film hit online and we are all wondering who the spy is (that is all who haven't read the book.) Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy hits screens on September 16th.

The Avengers will be talked about constantly for a year until its release. Why? Because it's awesome that's why, do not question it. The movie will blow your socks off. In a series of prequels that will firstly grace the DVD Thor, Marvel slowly will release the story. The first is The Consultant and clips have hit online. The clip revolves around Agent Coulsen and Agent Sitwell discussing some pretty shady orders from Emil Blonksy. It's all mysterious and not mysterious at the same time. Here is the clip;

Margaret is a film that certainly has me excited and that has nothing to do with the fact that it stars Anna Paquin and Mark Ruffalo. Nothing at all. Nothing. Ok, maybe a little. The Margaret trailer has finally arrived. I say finally because it looked for a while that we were never going to see it. Margaret tells the title of a Margaret (obviously,) a girl who witnesses a fatal bus accident and is caught in the aftermath slowly spirally out of control. Sure it be drama filled and powerful, Margaret has everyone talking.

Bad News

Hollywood is like the teenage popular girls you see in bad romantic comedies that takes the nerdy but infinite better Japanese films home for a makeover. The end result is making the brilliance just the same boring blandness they have been churning out but with a bit more "shiny." So suffice to say that David R Ellis is one of those popular girls (that was responsible for Snakes On A Plane,) has taken Anime great Kite by Yasumoi Umetsu and plans to remake it. Known for gratuitous sex and violent scenes, David R Ellis (who also made Shark Night 3D) wants to destroy it and bring it to the big screen. To soothe that headachey news, here's a trailer for the original;

So we've already established Hollywood as that relentless hot girl who wouldn't quit. But let's face it, Hollywood is a bitch and won't end her reign of terror until it tortures every soul to be named Queen Bee. Her next victim is Korean masterpeice Oldboy. We already established that this is a sin against nature. So Josh Brolin has signed up to be our hero. or villian, whichever way you take it.... no villian, there are no heroes in this.

Finally in bad news, we get a possible host for the Oscars because last years hosts were so well received. So who could pick up the shambles? Eddie Murphy. Don't get me wrong if I was writing this in the 80's (and you were reading in on those magazines that were so popular then) then I'd be loving the stand up in hosting duty. However, he has had far too many flops and bad publicity that this could be just as disastrous as a cross dressing James Franco.

Yikes.

I Can't Decide

In a new segment to this, I can't decide whether this is good news or bad news so I'll let you chose.

On the subject of Anne Hathaway, rumors are circling to whether or not she will star in the movie version of Les Miserable. There are hopes that she will play Fantine, the distressed mother of Cosette. There is o doubt that Hathaway can sing a little ditty or too but the material (and the role of Fantine) is beloved and very very dark so it will be a tricky subject to tackle and other adaptations of musicals can either be great or bad. There is also rumor of Oklahoma remake star Hugh Jackman (you probably haven't heard of him, tee hee) to star as Jean Valjean. Huh.

Talking about Hugh Jackman (do you like my linking skills?,) The Wolverine has a new writer Mark Bomback to take over writing ship. The Wolverine starts where Origins kick off but this time is set in the heart of the Japanese criminal underworld where he battles Viper and the Silver Samurai. There has been a hold on The Wolverine, a fresh new outing of the X-Men favourite, since Jackman jumped ship from kicking evil mutant butt to singing about the terrors of 1900's France.

Huh.
