Film News: The Thing 2011

This week a trailer for The Thing prequel/remake was released starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Romona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim) and Jon Edgerton. The plot follows the similar eery one as the first 1982 classic. In an Antarctic research plant, an alien ship is discovered filmed with all sorts of creepy crawly nasty's to royally mess up your day (and then imitate you after). Here's the trailer.

Now here is my problem with Hollywood bosses remaking classics such as The Thing; the reason they are classics is because people will still watch even with the shoddy film shots and special effects (in comparison with our new technicological advances.) That's why they are called "classics" and not "that film we watched once a while back but the quality was poor, I wish someone remade it.)

The original The Thing's monsters were puppets and whilst I have no doubt that CGI could cause a heathen of  horrendous creatures on screen, there was kind of a beauty in the "OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THAT.... ITS EYES ARE BURNING THROUGH MY SCREEN AH THE HORROR THE HORROR," Aliens. (Warning: picture coming up)

See,

Sweet dreams guys.
